Ruth: Miss Didn’t Dent My Confidence
MICHAEL RUTH was pleased to score the winner in a 1-0 victory against Airdrie – which also marked his first start in seven months after a hip injury.
The striker notched on the half-hour mark – meeting a Henry Fieldson cut-back at the front-post.
He said: “I was saying over there when you’re out injured and you’re watching the boys battle week in week out, it’s tough so I always had in my head when I come back, I want to contribute and to be able to grab the winner in a massive game like today, aye I’m buzzing.”
Ruth was glad to see the ball go in the back of the net especially after last week’s game where he missed a chance in the Spiders’ narrow 1-0 defeat to Dunfermline.
He added: “I was disappointed last week but like I said last week I knew that when the chances come, I’ll be able to take them, and Henry’s (Fieldson) done brilliantly going down the line and putting it on a plate for me basically.
“I just had to adjust my body and find the goal, I was delighted I was able to do that.”
The Spiders’ number nine had spent a long period of time on the sidelines after having hip surgery which kept him out of action for six months and was delighted to get back on the pitch.
Ruth said: “It’s so tough, I think anybody that’s been injured knows you and knows you’re supporting the boys week in week out, but you want to be out there.
“After being out for such a long time, it’s the first time I’ve really had a serious injury like that, but the physios and everything have been brilliant with me, getting me back, I’m feeling my fitness and sharpness is going up each week and to get a good 65-70 minutes in was good.”
Ruth will be hoping to kick on after that spell out on the sidelines as the Spiders approach the business end of the season and will need everyone fit and firing.
