McGrath: Positivity Needed After 'Disappointing' Draw

0 0

Jamie McGrath insists Hibs must stay positive following Saturday's "very disappointing" 3-3 draw against Dundee at Dens Park.

Dundee turned the game on its head to lead following Owen Elding's early opener to lead 2-1 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Ante Šuto levelled proceedings before McGrath fired Hibs in front for a second time with a terrific finish on 89 minutes, only for Cam Congreve to curl in a last-gasp equaliser with the last kick of the game.

Speaking to Hibs TV after the match, McGrath revealed the team's frustration with the result, admitting it felt more like a defeat than one point earned.

"We’re very, very disappointed. The highs and lows of the game. We think we scored to win the game and we just have to do better to see the game out.

"It’s very disappointing, but if we'd scored a late goal to draw two each, it'd be a different feeling.

"Ultimately, to score three goals away from home and then concede three and draw the game, it feels like a loss.

"I think we showed really good character to come back into it," he continued.

"From being 2-1 down in the last 10 minutes to then go get our noses in front, it's obviously a bitter blow to concede at the end. It's going to sting."

Despite the undeniable disappointment at dropping two points on the road after such a dramatic battle across the full 90 minutes, Hibs are now unbeaten in three matches.

While no player, coach or supporter will feel upbeat in the moment by this truth, McGrath believes it is an important run that can keep the team motivated ahead of the run-in.

"Although it's a draw and it feels like a loss, we have to remember we're still on a little bit of a run now. We have to try and keep that going, try to remain unbeaten for as long as we can.

"We've two weeks now to work as hard as we can and work on alot in training to try to get fitter, stronger. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. We have to have a good week's training, and try and finish the season as strong as we can. We still have a lot to play for.

"We're certainly not going to give up chasing the team ahead of us. There is a lot of football to be played and we have to try and stay as positive as we can."
