Serie A | Como 1-3 Milan: Rabiot magic keeps Scudetto hope alive
Como largely dominated the play, but Milan were more clinical as Adrien Rabiot earned a Christopher Nkunku penalty and scored two for a victory to keep them in the Scudetto race.
This Week 16 fixture was rearranged from December due to Supercoppa Italiana commitments, and with Napoli held by Parma last night and Inter winning, it felt like a pivotal moment in the title race. Strahinja Pavlovic and Santiago Gimenez were out of action, with Niclas Fullkrug fit for the bench despite fracturing a toe, but Christian Pulisic was not at 100 per cent after back-to-back draws with Genoa and Fiorentina. Como saw their run of three straight wins ended by a 1-1 with Bologna, and though Jacobo Ramon returned from suspension, Assane Diao, Jayden Addai, Edoardo Goldaniga and ex-Milan striker Alvaro Morata were injured.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.
The hosts took 10 minutes to break the deadlock, as a corner was taken short for Martin Baturina’s cross, finding Marc-Oliver Kempf to anticipate Youssouf Fofana for his header at the back post.

It was nearly 2-0, as Lucas Da Cunha fired over from 14 yards, and Como dominated possession to the degree that it prompted a Max Allegri tactical shift to 4-3-3.
Fofana’s weak finish was easy for Jean Butez, but the same could not be said of a flying Mike Maignan save on the Nico Paz curler from the edge of the area.
An extraordinary Maignan reaction save somehow kept out the Da Cunha header from point-blank range on Mergim Vojvoda’s cross, Fofana clearing the loose ball with difficulty.
Moments later, the Milan goalkeeper got down to push a Tasos Douvikas low drive round the base of the near post.
However, they were handed an opportunity back into the game against the run of play when Alexis Saelemaekers robbed Ignace van der Brempt and threaded through for Adrien Rabiot, who was tripped by Kempf for a penalty. Christopher Nkunku converted by squirming the spot-kick under Butez’s body to equalise. Rafael Leao had wanted to take the penalty, but Allegri made the decision.

Allegri changed the system again to 5-3-2 and Maignan had to make another sensational save, getting down to fingertip the Nico Paz low drive round the base of the far post.
Instead, Milan turned it around completely with a well-worked move. Leao controlled the Saelemaekers long ball and cut inside, pretending to shoot, but instead dinking a delightful pass up between two Como players for Rabiot to chest and sweep in the half-volley from seven yards.

Nico Paz almost equalised when he slipped as he pulled the trigger outside the area, it looped up and clipped the top of the crossbar.
Maxi Perrone blasted just over from distance, while Nico Paz again rattled the frame of the goal with an acrobatic volley on the Jesus Rodriguez pull-back that thumped the base of the upright.

Rabiot made sure of the points late on when he gathered a Fullkrug flick on and drilled hard and low into the near bottom corner from distance to complete his brace.
