Dropping down from the William Hill Premiership, St Johnstone were expected to be among the candidates for an immediate return to the top flight at the start of the season.
That is how their form has developed throughout the first half of the season with Simo Valakari’s side top of the table, though Partick Thistle are hot on their heels.
Helping them there has been ex-Spiders winger Josh McPake with 13 league goals and Jamie Gullan with the same tally in all competitions.
Of course Queen’s Park have our own striker chasing the top of the goalscoring charts too in Josh Fowler, and he netted in each of the previous two meetings between the sides.
Josh Fowler found the net in each match against the Perth side
Each has been a tight affair belying the difference in league positions with a single late goal deciding both in Saints’ favour.
McPake netted in injury time on the last trip to Glasgow, and a second half rally from the Spiders threatened a comeback cracker in Perth, but Jack Baird’s header six minutes from time proved decisive, despite Rocco Friel’s late goal.
