Fletcher says one teenager is the future of Man Utd after 'fearless' cameo vs Burnley

0 1

Manchester United were forced to settle for a dramatic 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

The hosts struck first in cruel fashion, with Ayden Heaven suffering the misfortune of deflecting the ball into his own net.

Benjamin Sesko finally ended his goal drought in emphatic style, scoring twice after the break, but a stunning strike from Jaidon Anthony ensured Burnley walked away with a lucky point.

Shea Lacey was introduced in the 84th minute and he almost won it for the Red Devils.

Darren Fletcher led the side from the touchline for the first time following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

He spoke glowingly about Lacey after the game (via Beanyman Sports): “I said to him, ‘stay wide and go and do what you can do’. He is exciting, he is direct, he is fearless.

“He has had a lot of injuries in recent years. He will be a big part of Manchester United’s future, I am sure of that.”

So near, yet so far

With his first touch of the contest, Lacey collected the ball on the right before cutting inside and firing a strike in his trademark fashion.

It was a powerful curling effort from the 18-year-old that looked destined for top left corner.

The Turf Moor crowd held its breath as the shot crashed against the crossbar, lifting supporters out of their seats in disbelief.

Lacey has a fantastic left foot and that moment was clear proof of his explosive talent.

Fletcher has watched the England youth international closely at Carrington during his work with the development squads.

He knew Lacey had the confidence, bravery and spark to snatch the game late for the Red Devils.

True to that fearless description, the teenager went for glory once again from range, only to see his second effort miss the target by some distance.
