Amorim confirms double Man Utd injury blow vs Bournemouth, one player is doubtful
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided an injury update on three players ahead of the Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Monday night.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road. The club are now sixth in the table, and just one point behind the final Champions League spot.
United host the Cherries at Old Trafford on Monday, and ahead of the game, Amorim has confirmed that Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt won’t be involved due to injuries.
The Portuguese tactician added that Benjamin Sesko needs to be assessed. He was back working on the grass after a knee injury, but recently suffered some food poisoning.
Amorim said: “Maguire is out, De Ligt is out. Ben we have to see. We have to see if he’s available. He had some [food] poisoning, but we’ll see. Let’s wait. We have two trainings still. The other two are out, Benjamin we will assess.”
Maguire picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur before the last international break. Sesko suffered a knee concern in the same game, but has made a quicker recovery.
The Slovenian is currently out of training due to food poisoning. With another two training sessions left before Monday’s clash, there is a chance that the striker could make the squad.
De Ligt has been nursing a back problem since the 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace. He has missed the last two matches due to ‘some pain’. There appears to be no return date, as things stand.
It is unclear when Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui have to exactly report for Africa Cup of Nations duty, but the trio are likely to feature against the Cherries.
United have had a stop-start campaign under Amorim. They have failed to capitalise on recent home games against West Ham United and Everton, picking up a solitary point.
The Red Devils were favourites to beat both teams. Had the club won those matches, they would have been right in the league title race, just three points behind leaders Arsenal.
Hence, Monday’s game is another huge one for United. The Cherries are in a poor run of form with just two points from their six league games under manager Andoni Iraola.
Still, they are unbeaten in the last four meetings against United, including two wins at Old Trafford. The Red Devils must play at their best to beat the South Coast outfit.
