Tottenham fans may be worried by what Thomas Frank just said about midfield balance
Thomas Frank has revealed his thoughts on Tottenham’s midfield balance and the criticism he has faced for being too conservative in his selections.
There has been plenty of debate regarding Frank’s selections in the middle of the park due to Tottenham’s shocking results at home this season.
Some have alleged that the Rodrigo Bentancur-Joao Palhinha pairing is too conservative and leaves the Lilywhites devoid of creativity.
The criticism has grown louder after the latest loss to Aston Villa on Sunday, where neither Lucas Bergvall nor Pape Sarr were in Tottenham’s starting eleven.
Thomas Frank is happy with Tottenham’s midfield balance
In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against Monaco, Frank was asked directly about the criticism levelled at Tottenham’s midfield.
The Spurs head coach insisted that he is pleased with the performances he has seen from his midfielders, but confessed that he hopes to see more penetrating passes from them.
When asked if he has been happy with his midfield combinations and if some of Tottenham’s passing has not been ambitious enough, Frank responded (via the club’s official website): “I think in general I’ve been overall happy with the midfielders that have played so far this season. Of course, you always want passes through the lines, on diags and balls in behind, but I think overall I’m quite happy.”
Frank has defended Spurs’ home form
Following the win against Villa, the Tottenham boss conceded that results at home have not been good enough this season and that there is room for improvement.
However, Frank suggested that his side’s performances at home have been better than the results show, which many Spurs supporters may not agree with.
