Report: Patriots Lose Running Back For Season Against Bills
The New England Patriots’ offense suffered a blow on Sunday in their 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills.
According to Adam Schefter, running back Antonio Gibson suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season.
Gibson was injured while returning a kick during the second quarter of Sunday’s game. He left the game and did not return.
The veteran has been the team’s top return man and third running back this season. He’s averaging 4.2 yards per carry, the highest mark on the team. Pro Football Focus also grades Gibson as the team’s best pass-blocking running back.
Rhamondre Stevenson fumbled again on Sunday but continued to get touches after the turnover. He went on to score two touchdowns in the game, but many have questioned his reliability.
TreVeyon Henderson is another option and has looked dynamic at times, but has struggled with both penalties and in pass protection. He’s in line to receive more snaps, but he’ll need to improve in those two areas to be a consistent contributor.
Terrell Jennings is the only running back on the practice squad. He appeared in three games for the Patriots last season, running for 33 yards on 13 attempts. It’s likely the team will make a signing before Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints.
