QUEEN’S PARK FC was saddened to learn of the passing of former player Hugh McGill last week.
Hugh made his debut for the club in 1974, and played as a forward under head coach David McParland.
He finished top scorer for the Spiders twice – sharing the accolade each time. First with Malky Mackay in 1974-75 scoring ten goals each, and then with Alexander McNaughton on eight apiece.
Hugh was also back in the hoops for the ‘re-birth of Hampden’ in 1999 – a proud appearance for the former forward.
As well as a Spiders striker, Hugh was also a secondary school teacher at John Ogilvie High School in Hamilton and held a Batchelor’s degree, with honours, in Physics.
He is survived by wife Maria, and daughters Julia, Caroline and Pamela.
The family is still in the process of planning the funeral, which will be on the afternoon and evening of Friday 10th October at a location near his home in Cheshire.
Further details will be known this week, but supporters or former team-mates who wish to attend are asked to reply to the family via this link.
