Manchester United Women face table-toppers Chelsea in the Women’s Super League at Leigh Sports Village on Friday evening in a top-of-the-table clash.

United recorded a 2-0 win at Liverpool in their last game to continue their good start to the season.

Chelsea maintained their flawless start to the campaign with a 4-0 victory at West Ham United in their last fixture.

Match preview

Man United head into the game as underdogs for the first time this season, given that Chelsea are the defending champions and the most in-form team in the division.

United’s only home league defeat last season was against the Blues, lending more credence to why the visitors are favourites.

That said, Marc Skinner’s side should pose a stern test for the league holders. They have scored more goals than Chelsea and conceded fewer times than them.

Chelsea have not lost in the top-flight since May 2024, and United would be sending a strong message to the rest of the league if they end their unbeaten run.

United have never won a league game against the west London side, losing 10 and drawing one of their previous meetings.

Man United’s only victory against Chelsea was in the FA Cup in the 2023/24 season, when they triumphed 2-1.

Team news

Anna Sandberg is expected to return to the United squad after missing the victory over Liverpool. Simi Awujo is also in contention to be in the squad for the first time this season.

Leah Galton is highly doubtful, while Millie Turner is unlikely to feature again this year.

For Chelsea, Lucy Bronze, Lauren James and Niamh Charles have made progress in their recovery but will not feature against United.
