"They are out": 3 Man Utd stars won't face Man City on Sunday, as per Amorim
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has provided team news ahead of the Manchester derby against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The Red Devils have had an average beginning to the campaign. They have picked up only four points from three Premier League matches, while bowing out of the Carabao Cup.
Despite this, there have been positives to carry forward. The club have attempted the most shots in the English top-flight and need to start scoring goals with more regularity.
Ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby on the road, Amorim revealed that Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot won’t be involved after picking up injuries over the past fortnight.
Cunha and Mount sustained muscle injuries during the 3-2 win over Burnley, while Dalot picked up his own problem whilst on international duty with Portugal. He had to return early as a result.
Amorim has now confirmed that the trio are out.
He told reporters: “They are out for this game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take. We need these guys to be a competitive team. We have very good players, who are eager to play, so we will be competitive on Sunday. But they are out.”
Amorim also provided clarity on the starting goalkeeper for Sunday. Altay Bayindir has been the regular between the sticks. He has started the first three league games of the campaign.
Senne Lammens has arrived from Royal Antwerp with a glowing reputation, but the manager revealed that Bayindir will continue in goal as the Belgian needs to adapt to a different league.
United beat City at the Etihad last season after a stunning 2-1 comeback win in the final 10 minutes. Amorim will be eyeing a similar outcome against the Cityzens in Sunday’s afternoon kick-off.
The Red Devils did not win back-to-back league games for the entirety of last season. They can put an end to the wretched record with a statement victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.
