Man Utd say yes to €18m transfer for 25yo star, player has his own plans
Manchester United have had a productive transfer window with four signings.
They have primarily focused on bolstering the forward department this summer.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have been signed alongside young defender Diego Leon. There could be more transfer activity before the transfer deadline.
It could largely depend on player sales, but as things stand, the hierarchy have been unable to offload the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.
Corriere dello Sport today (page 13) claim that AS Roma have reached an agreement to land Sancho from the Red Devils for €18 million, but the winger has not been convinced.
Sancho is eyeing a salary worth €7m per year, but an agreement could be reached for €5.5-6m. However, the 25-year-old is holding out for a move to a Champions League outfit.
United are also willing to participate in the million-dollar commission, but Sancho is stalling on a switch to the Giallorossi. The Serie A outfit could turn their attention elsewhere.
Red Devils must offload Sancho before transfer deadline
Sancho has been out of favour with the Red Devils over the last two years. He was deemed surplus to requirements under former manager Erik ten Hag last summer and was loaned out to Chelsea.
The Blues had an obligation to buy him at the end of the season, but nullified the agreement with a penalty clause. Sancho’s reluctance to accept a significant pay cut was the prime reason.
Sancho now appears open to accepting a salary reduction for a move abroad. United have said yes to Roma’s proposal for the winger, but the Englishman is holding out for Champions League football.
Juventus are probably the leading contenders from that point of view, but they have not made any progress. They are presently focused on outgoings and may prioritise a move for Randal Kolo Muani first.
Any deal for Sancho could be delayed until the final days of the transfer window. In our view, United must part ways with the attacker whose contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign.
Sancho could still leave after September 1 with Besiktas keen to capitalise. The Turkish transfer window does not close until September 12, and they remain optimistic of landing the winger.
