PSG boss Enrique breaks silence on Donnarumma amid Manchester City & Bayern links
PSG head coach Luis Enrique has broken his silence on the saga surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma, as the Spaniard says “the decision has to do with the profile of the goalkeeper” that his team requires after the Ligue 1 giants signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
Speaking to Sky Sport, via Sportal, ahead of tomorrow’s UEFA Super Cup tie against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, Enrique said “we are talking about not only one of the best goalkeepers in the world but also about a wonderful person” when asked about Donnarumma’s future.
Donnarumma has been linked with moves to Manchester City, Bayern and Galatasaray this summer, whilst the possibility of the Italian staying in Paris for another season and leaving on a free next summer is not ruled out.
Enrique accepts responsibility for Donnarumma decision
Talking about Donnarumma, Enrique continued, “The life of a top-level footballer, and the same goes for us coaches, is this: it wasn’t an easy decision but I take full responsibility for it. On the other hand, if these choices were easy, anyone could make them.”
PSG’s Brazilian centre-back Marquinhos also discussed his teammate, saying “Football is like that. Gigio has given us so much and deserves the best for his future, we wish him that. I have been here for twelve years and I have seen so many moments like this – friends and great players who arrive and then leave. We cannot do much about it – that is how the transfer market works.”
Donnarumma joined PSG from Milan in 2021 and has played 161 times for the Ligue 1 giants in all competitions. During his time with the Parisian side, the Italian has won four Ligue 1 titles, 2 Coupe de France and the Champions League.
