Robert Lewandowski reveals true feelings on Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona move—But it’s Lamine Yamal who steals the praise
Barcelona continues to make headlines in the summer transfer window—and not just with the players they bring in, but also with the reactions they spark. Marcus Rashford’s surprise loan move from Manchester United to the Catalan club has already ignited conversation, while Robert Lewandowski’s recent comments have added fuel to the anticipation surrounding the club’s upcoming campaign.
While the Polish striker addressed several topics ahead of Barça’s pre-season tour in Asia, his remarks about his new teammate and a certain teenage sensation suggest that the Catalans are heading into the 2025-26 season with ambition and clarity.
Rashford arrives: Lewandowski weighs in
After weeks of uncertainty at Manchester United—culminating in a stripped shirt number and delayed return to training—Marcus Rashford officially joined Barcelona on a season-long loan. The deal will see the Spanish club cover the entirety of Rashford’s wages, saving United an estimated $16 million, and includes an option to buy.
For Rashford, it marks a chance at redemption and the opportunity to return to Champions League football, especially after a mixed 2024-25 season that saw him briefly revive form while on loan at Aston Villa.
It didn’t take long for one of the club’s biggest voices to weigh in. “Rashford is a very talented player. We played Manchester United two years ago and he was in great form,” said Robert Lewandowski, via Sport. “He can help us and is able to play in different positions.”
The Polish forward went further in another interview with Catalunya Radio, praising Rashford’s adaptability and work ethic. “He is fit and can help us in different positions. His versatility will be very important, and that’s good for the team,” he added.
The 27-year-old England international is already training with the team as part of their pre-season tour, which includes friendlies against Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul, and Daegu.
Bold declaration on Lamine Yamal
Rashford’s arrival is certainly exciting, but it’s Lamine Yamal who remains Barcelona’s crown jewel. The teenager was awarded the iconic No. 10 shirt this summer, stepping into the legacy left by the likes of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Lionel Messi.
Yamal’s record last season was staggering for an 18-year-old: 18 goals and 25 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. Lewandowski believes this is just the beginning.
“Lamine, we can no longer say that he is a child. He is an adult because he just turned 18,” Lewandowski told reporters. “He is a great player and an excellent guy off the field. This year he will play even better, because he also has more experience. Lamine will play at a higher level every season.”
The message was clear: Yamal is now expected to lead. And with Barcelona’s focus firmly on Champions League glory, the teenager’s performances will likely dictate how far they go.
