WWE Legend Hulk Hogan Reportedly Dead At 71
Hulk Hogan died on Thursday, according to a report by TMZ.
Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest, with medics being dispatched to his home in Clearwater, Fla. TMZ reports that a slew of police cars and medics were parked outside the home early in the morning, with the iconic wrestler being carried on a stretcher and into an ambulance.
Hogan’s wife, Sky, denied rumors he was in a coma just a few weeks ago, saying his heart was “strong” as he recovered from consecutive back surgeries.
WWE inducted the iconic grappler into its Hall of Fame in 2005, though they did remove him for a short time after he spewed racist comments in a secret recording that was uncovered in 2015. Hogan successfully sued the website that posted the clip before being inducted a second time in 2020.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away.” WWE wrote on X. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Hogan rose to prominence in the 1980s with his “Hulkamania” persona and helped transform WWE, then known as the WWF, into a national powerhouse, becoming the company’s top champion on six separate occasions. Hogan reinvented himself into a dastardly heel in WCW during the late-1990s, as his “Hollywood Hulk Hogan” persona helped transform the business as part of the NWO (New World Order).
WWE welcomed him back on numerous occasions following his retirement, with his last appearance being on the Netflix debut of “Monday Night Raw” on Jan. 6.
Hogan was 71.
