Former Bruins Defenseman Discusses Value Of Tanner Jeannot

Kevan Miller wasn’t afraid to throw his body around when he was a defenseman on the Bruins.

When asked about the value of free-agent signing Tanner Jeannot, Miller talked about how important players like Jeannot are.

“I don’t know much about him, I know a little bit, watching him a few times,” Miller told NESN’s Sophia Jurksztowicz and Adam Pellerin on the “Hockey Hub” podcast. “I can just say that if you look at the Stanley Cup teams over the past 10 years, they had guys like this, they had a number of guys like this, they leaned heavily on those guys. They were big role players come down the stretch.”

With the Los Angeles Kings during the 2024-25 season, Jeannot skated in 67 games, adding seven goals and six assists. The 28-year-old also had 89 penalty minutes and at least 200 hits in four straight seasons.

Miller examines past playoff teams and believes that every team has players like Jeannot who add value.

When looking at the most recent Stanley Cup team, the Florida Panthers, they had multiple players who played a physical game throughout the playoff run.

“Great, he’s not going to score you 20 goals in the regular season, that’s fine because I promise you when playoffs come around, they are going to be loving that guy for every minute and every hit. Every blocked shot. Every leaning on this guy or the other,” Miller said.

With physical players like Trent Frederic leaving Boston, the 37-year-old thinks that it makes Jeannot even more important to the Bruins.

“He’s so valuable, and I think it was a great signing,” Miller said. “(The Bruins have) got a few of those guys now. You see (Frederic) leave, which is tough, I think he fills that void a little bit.”
