Man Utd emerge as contenders to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo - Journalist
Manchester United are likely to bolster their frontline with multiple signings this summer.
The Red Devils had a disappointing 2024/25 season in the Premier League. They finished a lowly 15th in the table with 42 points, having scored only 44 goals.
United have already added creativity this summer with the purchase of Matheus Cunha, and they are also very close to signing Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo.
Spanish journalist Jorge C Picon has now revealed that United are continuing the search for more wingers in the market. One of the players they really like is Real Madrid’s Rodrygo.
Rodrygo would be a statement signing
Cunha and Mbeumo were among the stand-out forwards in the Premier League last term. If United were to sign the latter, it would be a huge boost ahead of the upcoming season.
However, Rodrygo would be a next-level signing, considering he has exceptional ball control for a wide player. He completed 91 percent of his passes in La Liga in the previous campaign.
Rodrygo also managed 25 goal contributions from 54 appearances for Madrid last term. He was most effective from the left wing with 12 goal involvements from as many appearances.
In our view, the Brazil international would be a statement signing, but a deal could be difficult to pull off due to several reasons. First of all, Rodrygo may want a guaranteed starting role.
If Mbeumo were to join Cunha at United, the duo are most likely to start in the attacking midfield positions with captain Bruno Fernandes moving into the central midfield spot.
Rodrygo has featured as a central striker for Los Blancos in the past, but Brazilian outlet UOL claim that he is keen on playing on the left wing.
The 24-year-old could also give preference to Champions League football. League rivals Arsenal are reportedly his favoured English club.
On top of this, Madrid are expected to hold out for at least £86 million. The package could be much higher with performance add-ons.
Keeping this in mind, it looks highly unlikely that United will succeed in signing Rodrygo.
