MLB All-Star Game 2025: Red Sox’s Alex Bregman’s Status Is Finalized
Don’t look for Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman in next week’s All-Star Game. MLB announced Tuesday that Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero has been selected as an injury replacement for Bregman.
The 31-year-old Bregman was a long shot to play in the Midsummer Classic. He remains on the injured list with a right quad injury and is close to returning to the Red Sox lineup. He and manager Alex Cora expect it to happen shortly before or right after the All-Star break.
Bregman himself indicated he wasn’t likely to play Tuesday at Truist Park in Atlanta, Ga. “Maybe I’ll be fortunate enough to take my son to the Home Run Derby or something,” Bregman said earlier this week, according to Masslive.com’s Sean McAdam.
“But for me, with the timing of everything, I think what I need to is hopefully be back playing by the end of this week and use the All-Star break to continue to build up and work on my leg and make sure we just continue the progression the right way.
“I’ll be focused on my rehab at this point; hopefully, it will be just maintaining and being active at that point. We’ll see.”
Bregman, a three-time All-Star, is hitting .299 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs this season. He was one of three Red Sox players selected for the All-Star Game. Joining him on the AL roster are ace Garrett Crochet and closer Aroldis Chapman.
As for the 22-year-old Caminero, he’s certainly put together a season worthy of his first All-Star nod, hitting .252 with 21 home runs and 57 RBIs.
“Tremendous thing. I thank God for the opportunity,” Caminero said through interpreter Eddie Rodriguez, per MLB.com. “The hard work that I’ve been putting in, it’s paying off.”
