Preview: Ajax (N)
Hibernian will face Dutch giants Ajax in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly this Saturday (5 July).
The match will be held at Sportpark de Toekomst, with kick-off at 12 noon (UK time).
The Lowdown
Hibs got their 2025/26 pre-season campaign under way on Wednesday morning against German club MSV Duisburg.
In high temperatures, David Gray’s men battled out a 0-0 draw against the newly-promoted 3. Liga side.
Raphael Sallinger and Jamie McGrath both made their first appearances in Hibs colours, while several youngsters had an opportunity to impress with the First Team squad.
Centre-back Warren O’Hora and young forward Dean Cleland were both unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet, while Elie Youan provided a threat in attack following his return from a long-term injury.
The Hosts
Ajax head into the 2025/26 season under new management, with former Liverpool assistant coach John Heitinga taking over the reins at the Amsterdam club.
The four-time Champions League winners missed out on their first Eredivisie triumph in three years last season after failing to win four of their last five matches – agonisingly finishing just one point behind champions PSV Eindhoven.
This will be the first pre-season match of Heitinga’s tenure at Ajax as he shapes his squad for the upcoming campaign.
