Watch Top Red Sox Prospect Crush Home Runs In Consecutive At-Bats

The Boston Red Sox have welcomed their top prospects to the majors this season, but another hot hitter is making the case to follow suit.

Jhostynxon Garcia continues to make a name for himself in the minors. Known as “The Password” due to his uniquely spelled first name, the 22-year-old could be Boston’s next neophyte to make a big-league debut.

MLB.com ranks him fifth among the organization’s prospects behind the already promoted Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer, 19-year-old middle infielder Franklin Arias and Double-A pitcher Luis Perales.

Garcia unlocked more power on Sunday. In the third inning, the right-handed outfielder hit an opposite-field home run to put Triple-A Worcester ahead.

It didn’t take long for an encore. The next inning, Garcia sent another shot over the right-field wall. That seven-run frame propelled the WooSox to a 12-10 win over the Toronto Blue Jays’ Buffalo Bisons.

Here’s a look at Garcia’s two home runs, courtesy of the WooSox’s official social media account:

Following Sunday’s display, Garcia is batting .311 with eight home runs and a .992 OPS in 27 games for the WooSox. He hit a more modest .256/.355/.393 at Double-A Portland before last month’s promotion.

As he keeps raking, Garcia continues to receive more buzz. Before he caught fire in June, The Athletic’s Keith Law cited Garcia’s “significantly improved approach” when ranking him No. 46 among his top prospects.

Garcia could be ready for a big-league tryout, but the Red Sox probably don’t have room for him in Boston. Anthony merits outfield playing time following his recent promotion, and Wilyer Abreu rejoined the team following a brief stint on the injured list.

It may require some unforeseen circumstances for Garcia to receive a major-league cup of coffee this summer, but he’ll remain a must-watch in the minors.
