Former Red Sox Ace Lands On 15-Day Injured List
Boston Red Sox fans have spent the last week revisiting and dissecting a number of recent blockbuster deals in the days following the shocking trade of Rafael Devers on June 15.
Of the many deals the Red Sox have made in the last decade, the December 2023 trade that sent All-Star left hander Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves for Vaughn Grissom has remained a source of criticism among the fanbase, especially after Sale took home the National League Cy Young Award last season.
That being said, the Braves announced they have placed Sale on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 19) after suffering a fracture in his left rib cage. He injured himself fielding a ball during the ninth inning of the Braves 5-0 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday.
Sale’s shown few signs of regression one year removed from earning the first Cy Young Award of his career. Currently 5-4 with a 2.52 ERA in 15 starts, Sale has been one of the lone bright spots on an Atlanta team that has struggled with injuries and poor play (34-40) since the start of the season.
During six seasons with the Red Sox, Sale was 46-30 with a 3.27 ERA in 115 starts. Sale will best be remembered for winning a World Series title with the team in 2018, and earning consecutive All-Star selections between 2017-2018.
The Red Sox and San Francisco Giants will play the second game of their weekend series on Saturday afternoon. Bryan Bello (3-1) will oppose Landen Roupp (4-5). The Red Sox earned a 7-5 win over the Giants on Friday.
