39-goal star who’s agreed to join Arsenal now ‘very keen on a move to Man United if…’ - Ben Jacobs shares Thur morning transfer update

Sporting CP striker and Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres would be very keen on a move to Manchester United if the Red Devils can pull off a move, according to journalist and transfer insider Ben Jacobs.

The Sweden international is wanted by both the Gunners and Red Devils after he notched 39 league goals and eight assists in 33 Primeira Liga appearances in 2024-25, and the failure to qualify for the Champions League in 2025-26 was seen as a blow for the Old Trafford club in the race to land him.

However, Gyokeres remains open to reuniting with his former boss, Ruben Amorim, at Man United if the right money is brought to the negotiation table.

“My understanding is that Viktor Gyokeres would be very keen on a move to Man United if they could pull that off, financially speaking,” Jacobs said on The United Stand this morning.

It is a huge boost for the Red Devils given that they have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and are attracting Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo despite not offering European football next season.

Gyokeres has already given his verbal agreement to join the Gunners, but it appears working with Amorim again is still something he desires and he will not hesitate to join Man United if they can meet his demands and those of Sporting.

Arsenal have him as their plan B if a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko falls through, and the Red Devils can pip them to his services if they make a firm and quick move.

However, whether they will have the finances to pull off the move for the 27-year-old after signing Cunha and Mbeumo remains to be seen, with Sporting insisting it will cost a fee of €80 million (£67m) if suitors want to secure his services this summer.
