MLB Execs Heap Massive Praise For ‘Impressive’ Red Sox Rookie
It was a surprise when Kristian Campbell was named to the Red Sox’s Opening Day roster, but the big leagues did not look too big for the 22-year-old after the first month in MLB.
The surprise wasn’t exactly that Campbell had MLB talent. It was more of how quickly he’s risen in Boston’s organization.
Campbell’s fan base among the Fenway Faithful grew, and he also has fans outside of Boston. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand polled MLB executives about their thoughts on the start of the season. Eleven of the 19 execs named Campbell their “most impressive” rookie of the start of the season.
“It has been incredible to see him go from a fourth-rounder to stud big leaguer in less than two years,” a National League executive told Feinsand. “All while playing both infield and outfield.”
Another executive told the MLB insider, “He looks like the real deal. He can impact the game on both sides.”
Campbell hit four home runs and recorded 12 RBIs with a .902 OPS in 29 games. That made him the co-favorite to win American League Rookie of the Year with Athletics infielder Jacob Wilson.
There’s still plenty of season to go, but Campbell could land hardware and multiple accolades if he continues his production.
