Euro Car Parks PCN (Parking Charge Notice) (14 replies)
Advice please from the SHA massive !
My wife has had a parking charge notice (PCN) come through from Euro Car Parks
It’s the usual £100 but £60 if you pay within 2 weeks
A quick Google shows :
Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) - Local Authority:
Issued by councils and local authorities (plod) for traffic violations, including parking offenses.
Enforced under statutory law, meaning they are legal fines.
Failure to pay can lead to a charge certificate, potentially increasing the fine by 50%.
Can be disputed through formal appeals to independent tribunals.
Parking Charge Notice (PCN) - Private Company:
Issued by private parking companies or landowners for parking violations on private land.
Enforced under contract law, meaning they are essentially invoices for a breach of contract.
Failure to pay can lead to court action, but not criminal prosecution.
Can be disputed by challenging the terms of the agreement.
In essence: A council-issued PCN is a legally enforceable fine, while a private company PCN is a contractual obligation, and their respective enforcement mechanisms and dispute processes differ significantly
Has anyone else received a Parking Charge Notice and if so, what did you do…..just ignore ?
As I understand it, they start sending threatening letters threatening court, baliffs, increased fines etc to try to scare but then eventually get bored if you ignore then long enough but they can take you to court although unlikely
