Match Preview: Queen’s Park v Raith Rovers

0 0

QUEEN’S PARK FC welcome Raith Rovers for the final game of the season – and at Hampden.

A large contingent from from Fife is heading to the National Stadium for the William Hill SPFL Championship crunch clash – with plenty riding on it.

Raith still have a chance of the promotion play-offs, and rivals for fourth spot Partick are at title hopefuls Livingston.

Queen’s Park have less to play for but can still move up the table with a win of our own though.

Steven MacLean has been drilling the team for the final week of the campaign – and among those on the pitch at Lochinch on Thursday were Charlie Fox (pictured) and Niko Ujdur.

The Season So Far...

Raith Rovers are still gunning for the promotion play-offs, but Queen’s Park face no jeopardy for the first time in three seasons.

The Spiders are safe following Hamilton’s points deduction for breaching SPFL rules, which was confirmed 24 hours ahead of kick-off.

That means Steven MacLean’s side can’t drop any lower than eighth – but could leapfrog Dunfermline into seventh by bettering the Fife side’s result, or improving their goal difference by two.

Form has picked up over the past fortnight with two points from two draws, and two goals scored.

That’s an improvement on the run of defeats in all competitions which began after winning against Barry Robson’s side back in March.

Goals from Adam Montgomery, Nikola Ujdur, Zak Rudden and Adam Devine stunned the Kirkcaldy crowd and gave the Spiders a fantastic victory.

Since then the wins – and the goals – have been hard to come by but Steven MacLean’s team have shown signs of improvement against Hamilton and Ayr United.

Both games were away from home though and for the season’s curtain call it’s back to Hampden.

Rovers won the last meeting at The National Stadium 2-1 and have more to play for, but Queen’s Park will be keen to finish a season full of ups and downs on a high in front of a healthy crowd.
