Chelsea handed major injury boost ahead of Tottenham clash as key star returns
Tottenham are set to face Chelsea in a crucial London derby, and the Blues have been handed a huge boost that could make Ange Postecoglou’s night even trickier at Stamford Bridge.
The final international break of the 2024/25 season has come to an end, which means the 17 Tottenham players who were away on duty for their respective countries are now heading back to Hotspur Way. They will rejoin the 13 Spurs players who remained behind during the break.
With the pause in club football done, the Lilywhites will now switch their focus to the business end of the season, which is crucial for Ange Postecoglou, given the immense pressure he is under.
Up first is a massive midweek fixture – a Premier League clash against Chelsea on Thursday, 3 April. As Spurs are not involved in the FA Cup, they will not be in action this weekend, giving them extra time to prepare for the trip across London.
Nicolas Jackson returns to Chelsea training ahead of Tottenham Hotspur clash
Ahead of the game, Chelsea have been handed a significant boost, with Nicolas Jackson returning to full training following a spell on the sidelines.
The Senegalese striker picked up a thigh injury during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over West Ham last month, ruling him out of the club’s last eight matches across all competitions.
Chelsea have now confirmed via their official website that Jackson has trained both in the gym and on the grass at Cobham, alongside Malo Gusto, Jadon Sancho and Christopher Nkunku, who were not called up for international duty.
His return means he is now in contention to face Spurs on Thursday when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs must be wary of Jackson’s record against them
While this is a huge boost for Enzo Maresca’s side, Tottenham will have every reason to be wary of Jackson, who has already caused them problems since arriving at Chelsea.
The forward has played against Tottenham Hotspur three times, scoring four goals and winning all three encounters.
The only time he failed to find the net was in the reverse fixture earlier this season on matchday 15 – yet Chelsea still won that game 4-3.
Season | Matchday | Venue | Score | Goals | Minutes Played |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
23/24 | 11 | Away | 1-4 | 3 | 90′ |
23/24 | 26 | Home | 2-0 | 1 | 90′ |
24/25 | 15 | Away | 3-4 | 0 | 76′ |
Of course, Chelsea are not the only team to be handed a major boost on the injury front, as Tottenham are also expected to welcome the likes of Danso, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison back from injury.
