Argentina fail to follow Cristian Romero fitness plan after recent Tottenham injuries

0 9

Ange Postecoglou will not be happy with what he saw Argentina do with Cristian Romero during the international break, with the World champions failing to comply with the Tottenham centre-back’s workload management plan.

Some eyebrows were raised when Cristian Romero was called up to the Argentina squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil, given how little football the centre-back had played over recent months.

The 26-year-old is still working his way back to full match sharpness and it was reported last week that Argentine would only use Romero for one of their two matches during the international break.

It was explained that the Albiceleste medical set-up and analysed the Tottenham vice-captain and concluded that he was not ready to feature in two back-to-back matches in a matter of days.

Lionel Scaloni’s Romero decision may anger Ange Postecoglou

The Spurs man played all 90 minutes against Uruguay last Friday as the World Champions emerged with a hard-fought 1-0 win away from home.

Tottenham fans would have thus expected Cristian Romero to be rested against the Brazilians, but he was once again given the nod to start by Lionel Scaloni, getting another 90 minutes of football under his belt just three days after his exertions against Uruguay.

It proved to be a memorable night for Argentina, who emerged 4-1 winners at home, and Romero appears to have come through the game unscathed.

However, the Tottenham medical team and Postecoglou may not be happy with the fact that Scaloni and Argentina have not protected the defender.

Cristian Romero upset with his off-field treatment by Tottenham

This development comes after Cristian Romero indirectly took a swipe at Tottenham’s medical staff earlier this month, thanking the Argentine doctors rather than the Spurs ones for helping him recover from his injury woes.

In fact, it emerged just a few days ago that Romero was left deeply upset with how the Tottenham medical team handled his rehabilitation.

Spurs fans would be wondering if the trust between the centre-back and the North London club has now broken down.
