Ex-Red Sox Target Reportedly Drawing Trade Interest After 2024 Disaster

Jordan Montgomery once upon a time made plenty of sense for the Boston Red Sox in free agency.

The winter before the 2024 season saw Montgomery spend plenty of time in Boston before his market eventually dried to a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. His first season certainly didn’t go to plan. Montgomery posted a 6.23 ERA and led Arizona’s ownership to publicly regret the deal in interviews.

Now, the Diamondbacks appear ready to evacuate from the big-ticket signing. Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro reported Wednesday that multiple teams showed interest in trading for the 32-year-old left-hander.

Arizona already made other notable starting pitching additions in recent years with Eduardo Rodriguez and Corbin Burnes, so they have legitimate arms with Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly with the flexibility to move on from Montgomery if the right deal presents itself.

The Red Sox offer a highly intriguing rotation in 2025 once the group is healthy, headlined by the offseason additions of Garrett Crochet and Walker Buehler.
