Beanpot Wrap: Harvard Rises Up To Take Down Northeastern
BOSTON — Harvard will walk away from the Dunkin’ Beanpot with one win under its belt after the Crimson defeated Northeastern, 4-3, in the third-place game Monday evening at TD Garden.
Harvard improved its record to 8-13-2 while Northeastern, which went winless at the tournament for the first time since 2012, dropped to 9-14-3.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
Northeastern couldn’t stay out of the penalty box in the contest and that proved to be problematic, especially since Harvard made the Huskies pay almost every time they picked up an infraction.
The Huskies committed six penalties through the first two periods and the Crimson responded by scoring four power-play goals. The man-advantage helped the Crimson erase a 1-0 deficit in the opening frame. Harvard then started the second period on the power play and cashed in 56 seconds into the frame thanks to a goal from Mason Langenbrunner, a 2020 fifth-round pick of the Boston. Langenbrunner scored two power-play goals in the period.
Harvard even scored three seconds into a power play near the midway mark of the second period when Casey Severo redirected in a shot after a shot from the point from Ian Moore.
Northeastern also committed a five-minute major in the final frame and while Harvard didn’t score on that chance, it helped the Crimson shorten the game.
Harvard made the most of its opportunities, though, as Northeastern had a hand in its defeat due to its undisciplined play.
PLAY OF THE GAME
A sensational individual effort late in the first period from Harvard freshman winger Mick Thompson produced a highlight-reel goal. Thompson first eluded a Northeastern defenseman and tipped the puck past Huskies goalie Cameron Whitehead, who came to the top of his crease to try to make a play, to the end boards. Thompson didn’t hesitate and shot the puck from behind the net and it bounced off Whitehead for a hard-earned goal.
