Stanford football to play nine bowl game teams in 2025 season

0 9

The ACC has released the finalized schedule for the 2025 season for all conference members. Stanford, in their second season of ACC play, will travel over 26,000 miles, enough to circumnavigate the globe. The schedule includes matchups against two College Football Playoff (CFP) participants and nine teams that competed in bowl games last season.

Stanford will open the season as the only ACC team playing in Week 0, with an Aug. 23 contest in Oahu, Hawaii against the Rainbow Warriors. This marks the Cardinal’s second trip to Hawaii in three seasons. An early bye in Week 1 follows before Stanford faces BYU on Sept. 6 in Provo, Utah. The Cougars, who finished third in the Big 12 last season, represent a tough non-conference road test for Stanford.

On Sept. 13, Stanford will return to The Farm for its home opener, as well as its ACC opener, against Boston College. This will be the first meeting between the two programs since 2002 and the first time since 2022 that Stanford’s conference opener coincides with its home opener. A week later, the Cardinal will head to the East Coast to face the Virginia Cavaliers on Sept. 20 in what will also serve as Virginia’s ACC opener.

Stanford will then close out September with a home game against Bay Area rival San Jose State. This matchup will give the Cardinal an opportunity to avenge their season-ending loss to the Spartans last year.

Following a Week 6 bye, the Cardinal will make their first trip to Dallas to play their new yearly opponent, SMU, who is fresh off a playoff appearance. Stanford will then return home on Oct. 18 for its annual Reunion Homecoming Game against Florida State. The month concludes with a cross-country trip to South Florida to take on the Miami Hurricanes on Oct. 25.

In November, Stanford begins with a home game against Pittsburgh on Nov. 1 before hitting the road to face North Carolina on Nov. 8. After this five-game stretch, Stanford will enjoy its third and final bye in Week 12 before wrapping up the regular season with two marquee rivalry games at home.

Stanford will host Cal on Nov. 22 in the 128th Big Game in its traditional pre-Thanksgiving slot. Lastly, the season finale will feature a high-profile matchup on Nov. 29 against 2024 NCAA runner-up Notre Dame.

Stanford will see all their games played on Saturdays this year, and apart from two games on the road to start the season and two games at home to end it, the Cardinal will alternate home and away contests throughout the season. Head Coach Troy Taylor will look to improve on his second, and the program’s fourth, consecutive 3-9 season.
