New Patriots Coordinator Reveals ‘Big Reason’ For Joining Staff
Both of the Patriots’ newest coordinators arrived in New England with a sense of familiarity.
Josh McDaniels experienced a homecoming, as he’s back in the role he occupied for over a decade in Foxboro, Mass., before leaving for Las Vegas. Terrell Williams, meanwhile, was reunited with Mike Vrabel, as the two worked together for six years in Tennessee.
In a video released to the Patriots’ social media channels after Williams was hired, New England’s new defensive coordinator acknowledged he was eager to work alongside Vrabel again.
“A big reason for coming here was Mike Vrabel, you know? Just believing in him and who he is,” Williams said. “I know what he is as a coach. I know who he is as a family man. So, that’s important to me. Just having a chance to get back with Mike was a big, big draw for me.”
Williams, who also has stints with the Raiders, Dolphins and Lions under his belt, also stated his belief that the Patriots are “committed to being a great organization” more so than other NFL franchises.
The 50-year-old has his work cut out for him as he tries to turn New England’s defense into one of the league’s best units. But Vrabel clearly believes Williams is up to the task.
