Will Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou this month? – Opinion

Will Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou this week? The future of Spurs’ manager hangs in the balance as results fail to improve, and questions loom about whether a loss to Leicester City could seal his fate.

A turbulent start to Ange Postecoglou’s second season at Tottenham

It has been a challenging six months for Tottenham Hotspur fans, marked by moments of promise overshadowed by growing frustrations.

The season began with a glimmer of hope as Tottenham’s opening match against Leicester City showcased the attacking brand of football Ange Postecoglou promised to deliver.

Despite a 1-1 draw, there was optimism as Spurs dominated possession and created chance after chance, with many chalking it up to bad luck.

That optimism was reinforced a week later in a resounding 4-0 victory over Everton. It was the ideal display of Postecoglou’s philosophy: front-footed, dynamic, and commanding in both attack and defence. Fans were treated to scintillating football, and the early doubts seemed to dissipate.

However, as the weeks progressed, a troubling pattern emerged. Against Newcastle United, Spurs delivered another strong performance but walked away empty-handed.

A similar story unfolded in the narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal, where a set-piece goal proved the difference.

Though the performances were often encouraging, the inconsistency in results began to sow doubt among supporters.

Postecoglou himself assured fans that his track record showed success in his second season, but this assurance started to ring hollow as Tottenham continued to falter.

Will Tottenham sack Ange Postecoglou?

Well, fast forward to the present day, and the situation has spiralled beyond anyone’s worst fears.

Tottenham find themselves languishing in 15th place, a mere eight points above the relegation zone, while sitting fourteen points adrift of the coveted fourth spot.

Injuries have plagued the squad, leaving key players sidelined at crucial moments, and the team has suffered defeats to lower-ranked opposition, compounding the sense of crisis.

The most recent blow came in a dismal 3-2 loss to Everton, a side sitting 16th on the table. Postecoglou abandoned his usual formation in favour of a more conservative approach, but the result was nothing short of disastrous.

Everton stormed to a 3-0 lead by half-time, leaving Tottenham’s performance in shambles and sparking outrage amongst fans.

The lack of reinforcements during the transfer window has added to the discontent, with Tottenham’s key targets being snapped up by rival clubs.

Despite claims that Postecoglou’s attacking philosophy would eventually bear fruit, the results have only worsened.

The manager’s steadfast refusal to compromise on his style, until now, has left many questioning whether he has the tactical flexibility required to navigate the Premier League’s challenges.

Is Daniel Levy ready to wield the axe again?

Considering Daniel Levy’s history, where twelve managerial changes have defined his tenure, many would have expected Ange Postecoglou to be shown the door already.

Yet, the Tottenham chairman has stood by his manager, perhaps recognising his own role in the club’s ongoing struggles.

Critics argue that Tottenham’s decline was inevitable, with cracks papered over by Harry Kane’s brilliance in recent years. Now, without the talismanic striker, the fragility of the squad has been laid bare.

The board has repeatedly stated their commitment to building the right structure for Postecoglou to succeed, which may explain their reluctance to make a change just yet.

However, patience is wearing thin among sections of the fanbase, and the upcoming match against 19th-placed Leicester City could prove decisive.

While the club insists that Postecoglou’s position is not under threat, the reality is stark: failure to win against Leicester would leave Tottenham in an even more precarious position, potentially forcing Levy to rethink his stance.

The Foxes’ visit offers a chance to regain momentum, but if Spurs falter again, it remains to be seen whether Levy will choose to double down on his current strategy or opt to build the right structure around yet another manager because, in fairness, it does not have to be Ange Postecoglou.
