The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Monday 20th January) Flattering but we'll take it
Good Morning. It's Monday 20th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Flattering but we'll take it
Leeds United reclaimed their spot at the top of the Championship table with a convincing 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Leeds couldn't have asked for a better start, opening the scoring within the first three minutes. A pinpoint through ball from Joel Rothwell sliced open the Wednesday defence, sending Aaronson racing clear. While Wednesday goalkeeper James Beadle reached the ball first, he failed to collect it, instead it parried kindly to the feet of Solomon, who took a touch before hammering home from six yards.
This early goal provided a much-needed boost for the Leeds players, settling their nerves after several below-par performances. Daniel Farke's outfit were by far the better side, but failed to take advantage until two minutes from normal time when Ramazani, an 83rd minute substitute turned on the magic, dancing his way through a sea of orange before finding the back of the net. Ao Tanaka grabbed Leeds third at the death, cheekily back heeling Ramazani's on target strike from the edge of the area, instigated from a well executed corner.
Does Ramazani hold the key to unlock defences
Despite the convincing scoreline, yesterday's performance left much to be desired. Notwithstanding their current status, at the top of the Championship, it's hard not to wonder how the game would have unfolded if they hadn't been handed an early goal. Since their win against Stoke on Boxing Day, Farke's side have struggled to find their rhythm, looking far from the champions they aspire to be. However, one players performance could provide the shot in the arm Leeds need to regain their momentum.
Largie Ramazani's brief appearance on the field was a breath of fresh air, and he seems ready to take on a starting role, perhaps against Norwich in the upcoming match. With Brenden Aaronson sustaining a knee injury, it leaves the door ajar for Largie Ramazani to potentially claim the playmaker position.
Aaronson's seven goals and two assists haven't gone unnoticed, but he hasn't come close to filling the void left by Georginio Rutter; begging the question would a fully fit Ramazani do any better? As the transfer window ticks down, it's looking more unlikely that Leeds are going to bring new faces in, prompting murmurs that the former Manchester Utd forward may hold the key to unlocking opposition defences!
