Harry Kane speaks about his former Spurs teammate Heung-min Son and makes an interesting claim about Jose Mourinho’s role in the striker partnership they forged together at Tottenham.
Harry Kane and Heung-min Son: One of the most iconic duos in Premier League history
There is no doubt that many decades from now, people will look at Kane and Son pairing as one of the most famous partnerships in the history of the Premier League.
The Tottenham duo clinched the record for most goal combinations in the competition’s history, combining for 47 goals, 11 higher than the former Chelsea duo, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, in second place.
The South Korean star has certainly felt the impact of the England captain’s departure 18 months ago, with his goal numbers dropping as a result of not having his partner spraying world-class through balls for him to run onto.
Harry Kane makes admission about Spurs partnership
Harry Kane has now lavished praise on his former Spurs teammate, insisting that he does not get the recognition he deserves.
The Bayern man also gave credit to former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho for unlocking the pair’s potential as a partnership, admitting that he forged a ‘telepathic connection’ with his former teammate.
Kane told L’Equipe: “I got on incredibly well with Heung-min Son. I also think he’s one of the most underrated players in the top leagues. We’ve always had a very good technical relationship. But it took on another dimension when José Mourinho came to Spurs. Before, the roles were more established, I was number 9, Sonny was on the left.
“We already understood each other very well in the game, but under José, we formed more of an attacking duo and there we created an almost telepathic connection with much more changing roles, one time I was upfront, another time I was dropping back to set him up.”
Kane hoping to recreate a partnership with Bayern teammate
Kane has further enhanced his reputation as one of the best strikers of the modern era since his switch to the Allianz Arena.
Not only has he banged in the goals with astonishing regularity, but he has also showcased his ability to drop deep and be a playmaker, a quality that Tottenham fans are well aware of.
When the striker was asked about finding a similar connection at Bayern to the one he had with Son, he said: “I think it’s possible because I understand the game even better today so I connect even more easily. We can already see a glimpse of that at Bayern with Jamal Musiala, for example.”
