Man Utd feel teenage sensation could become 1st in his position at the club to make PL debut before 18 - report

There is a feeling among some people at Carrington that Manchester United academy starlet Godwill Kukonki could go on to make history, according to the Daily Mail.

No defender has ever played for the Red Devils in the Premier League before their 18th birthday, but the 16-year-old could go into the record books if he continues at his current rate of development.

Man United manager Ruben Amorim was impressed with Kukonki in training last week, and the Portuguese included him as part of the travelling party to Ipswich Town on Sunday.

While the teenage sensation did not make the matchday squad, there is a feeling that he is getting closer.

The new Man United boss and his coaching staff have loved what they have seen from Kukonki.

He has been with the first team this week instead of joining the under-19s who travelled to the Netherlands for the first leg of a UEFA Youth League qualifier against AZ Alkmaar.

He turns 17 next February, and it would not surprise many people at the club if he ends up making his league debut before February 2026, given his huge potential.

Trusting a teenager to play in defence in the Premier League is a very rare occurrence, but Kukonki could be close to making history at Man United.

He joined the club at the age of five, signing a scholarship deal in the summer and training with the first team for the first time last Monday.

The versatile defender has been a regular with the under-18s and under-21s, and being able to play at centre-back and left-back could see him force his way into the plans of Amorim.

The Portuguese handed official first-team debuts to 27 players from the Sporting CP academy during his time as their manager. Kukonki will hope he follows suit.
