Report: Spurs will allow Arsenal to have a free run at 24-year-old target

0 6

According to GiveMeSport, Tottenham Hotspur are no longer exploring a deal for Alexander Isak and could allow their North London rivals to have a free run at the Newcastle striker.

Tottenham no longer have a need for a striker

The report points out that Spurs did previously hold an interest in Isak but following their acquisition of Dominic Solanke, they are no longer expected to test the waters for the Swede.

It is explained that the Lilywhites are not in the market for a number nine, which is why the route is clear for Arsenal to test Newcastle’s resolve with an offer.

One criticism of Mikel Arteta’s current Arsenal squad is that they lack the out-and-out number nine capable of scoring 20 goals a season, unlike Premier League title rivals Manchester City.

Newcastle want Isak to sign a new contract

The report states that even though Isak has nearly four years left on his contract at St James’ Park, the Magpies are keen to tie him down to a new deal.

However, their efforts to do so have proven unsuccessful so far, with the Gunners now waiting in the background to pounce on the former Real Sociedad man if Eddie Howe’s men do not make any progress in their talks.

Newcastle failed to even achieve a European football finish last season, despite fighting their way into the Champions League the year before.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given how long Isak has left in his contract, Newcastle will likely demand upwards of £100m for their marksman and it is difficult to see anyone spending that kind of fee on one player in the PSR era.

That being said, he would be worth every penny for Arsenal in the fight to close the gap on Man City.
