‘You shouldn’t believe’ – Danny Rose opens lid on Amazon documentary and Spurs exit

Danny Rose insists that not everything fans saw in the Amazon Prime documentary about Tottenham is true, while opening up on the circumstances around his Spurs exit.

Amazon’s All or Nothing series featured Tottenham in the 2019-20 season, with the fly-on-the-wall documentary showing what happened behind the scenes in a tumultuous season for the club as Mauricio Pochettino left and Jose Mourinho took over.

The series featured several controversial moments, including one where Rose and Mourinho came to blows over the left-back’s lack of game time.

However, the former Tottenham man has insisted that the documentary played fast and loose with the facts, and was edited to make the club look good.

The left-back told The Gambling Zone YouTube channel: “People going off what happened in the Amazon thing, you shouldn’t believe everything that you hear and see on there because ultimately that’s fabricated to make the club look as good as possible, even if the stuff couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Rose also discussed the circumstances of his exit from Spurs, with his 14-year spell coming to an end in 2021 after his contract ran out.

When asked about being frozen out in his last season at the club, the defender responded: “That’s football. I had a meeting with the chairman, and I told him that I wasn’t leaving until my contract was finished and that I wanted to honour my contract.

“I told him that I knew what was coming, I knew they’d take my number off me, send me to be with the u23, and he looked at me like he didn’t know what language I was speaking, as to say they’d never do that to me.

“And then I return for the first day of preseason, and they do that. So it wasn’t a shock. In the end, I honoured my contract, and that’s all there is to it.”

While I loved Rose as a player and liked his outspoken nature, the reality is that he did not handle his decline with any grace and seemed to have a chip on his shoulder.

There was very little else that Tottenham could do apart from freezing him out of the first-team picture after he had a falling out with Mourinho and refused to leave.
