Sunderland Boss Scuppers Liverpool Swoop For National Team Star

0 4

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has scuppered a plan for Liverpool to sign a Mexico international and loan him out to the Black Cats.

Liverpool are alive to opportunities as the end of the summer transfer window approaches and have just snapped up Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

The Reds have been working under the radar on another deal for a winger though in the shape of Mexico international and Pumas star Cesar Huerta.

The 23-year-old has caught Liverpool’s eye and they have watched his progress in the Mexican top flight with Pumas with interest.

Liverpool were finalising a deal to sign Huerta on Thursday, but the Reds have now ended negotiations, according to TUDN (via Mexican outlet Record).

It is suggested that Liverpool planned to sign Huerta and then send him on loan to Sunderland in the Championship.

The deal though hit choppy waters when Black Cats boss Le Bris said no.

Le Bris was unwilling to agree to the loan plan.

Pumas were willing to help the move go through and provide their facilities if needed, but Sunderland being unwilling to loan the winger meant Liverpool decided to call off the late swoop.

The Reds felt there was not enough time to find another suitable team to loan Huerta out to.

Whether Liverpool might return for Huerta in the January transfer window or try to line up another deal to kick in then remains to be seen.
