Pep Guardiola expects the Premier League title race to be hotly contested this season, naming Tottenham Hotspur as one of the teams that he expects to push his side.
Postecoglou wants to push for the title
Ange Postecoglou has not been shy of announcing his intention to challenge the best sides in the division but on the evidence of Tottenham’s performance against Leicester, his team have their work cut out.
While there were a lot of positives to take from Spurs’ showing, given the way they utterly dominated proceedings for large parts of the encounter, we saw little to suggest that they have overcome the problems which plagued them last season.
Tottenham were once again wasteful in front of goal and lacked defensive control, looking susceptible whenever they lost the ball in the middle third during the second half.
Pep expects Spurs to compete at the very top
However, Guardiola certainly thinks that Spurs will be a force this season, insisting that the way they play under Postecoglou will see them pick up consistent results.
The Manchester City boss named a lot of teams as potential title challengers but Tottenham was the side he named second in his list following Arsenal.

While there is certainly an element of Guardiola just trying to be humble and respectful to his opponents, the fact that he mentions Tottenham after Arsenal and ahead of Liverpool suggests that he does look at the Lilywhites as a potential outside contender for the title.
