Tottenham’s scouting department has been undergoing drastic changes of late, and one of the club’s most loyal servants is now stepping away from a role he has held since 2010.

David Pleat bids Spurs farewell

Football veteran David Pleat will be leaving his position as part of the scouting team at Spurs, and leaves behind a legacy involving time also spent serving as club manager and Director of Football.

In the statement announcing Pleat’s decision to step back, he said: “Football is my life and continues to be. Spurs has been a huge part of that. However, the game and its methods change and it’s time for me to now step back from my scouting role.

“I look forward to watching the Club have great success in the coming years. I hope to continue my association with the game.”

Chairman Daniel Levy also had this to say: “I should like to thank David for his contribution over so many years and in so many ways. He had, and continues to have, an encyclopaedic knowledge of the game and players. I know he will continue to enjoy watching our games at all levels.”

Pleat’s legacy goes back to 1986

In 1986, Pleat came in as Spurs manager and secured a top-three finish in the league and reached an FA Cup final, too. He moved on in October 1987.

But, he was back just over a decade later, becoming Tottenham’s first-ever Director of Football in 1998. Pleat served as caretaker manager on three occasions, before leaving again in 2004.

His third and final stint with Spurs came when Pleat joined the scouting department in 2010.

Spurs Web Opinion

David Pleat has given everything to Tottenham over the course of the last (just under) 40 years, and it is a real shame to see him depart.

But, it sounds like he has made this decision for a good reason and will now be able to enjoy his free time, hopefully.
