88% pass accuracy, 3/3 long balls, 3 fouls won: £30m star was United's best player in Arsenal defeat

0 2

Manchester United suffered their second pre-season friendly defeat against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Red Devils made a bright start with Rasmus Hojlund finding the net in the 10th minute, but the Dane was soon substituted with an apparent hamstring injury.

Gabriel Jesus equalised for the Gunners in the 26th minute. Things turned worse for United as Leny Yoro picked up an injury of his own in the 35th minute of the game.

Arsenal eventually won the friendly through Gabriel Martinelli in the 81st minute.

United suffered a double injury blow at the SoFi Stadium in California, but there were some positives.

Mason Mount had a good 45 minutes from the starting line-up. He had a passing accuracy of 88 percent against Arsenal, completing 100 percent of his long balls (3/3).

The former Chelsea man also made two key passes. He won two tackles and drew three fouls.

The £30 million-rated star had only one shot on goal, but it was a lively performance from him. He looks to be getting back to his best after an injury-plagued campaign.

Mount was sidelined for most of 2023 and early 2024 with multiple injuries. He has worked on his fitness during pre-season and could be a player to watch out next term.

The attacker started from the number 10 role against the Gunners. Bruno Fernandes has been United’s undisputed starter from the position over the last four-and-a-half years.

The club captain is expected to retain his place on his return. Mount could still have a huge role to play as he can operate on either wing or from the number eight position.
