Manager claims a lot of lies have been told about his nearly move to Tottenham

Arne Slot has said that things have worked out well for both him and Tottenham after his failed move to the North London club last summer, insisting that he is very happy with the way things are going at Feyenoord.

Slot’s stock was very high last summer after he led Feyenoord to a historic Eredivisie title triumph last season and Tottenham came knocking on his door.

At one point, it seemed as if the 45-year-old was nailed on to become the next Tottenham head coach, with reports indicating that Feyenoord were resigned to losing their boss to the Premier League side (Football Insider).

However, the move never materialised, with some publications suggesting that it fell through as a result of the Lilywhites refusing to pay the £20m compensation that the Dutch club wanted (talkSPORT).

Spurs then decided to appoint Ange Postecoglou and the decision has been vindicated, with the Australian transforming the team’s style of play and quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Arne Slot says lies were told about his Spurs move

Speaking about Slot’s failed move to Tottenham, Rafael Van der Vaart told Studio Voetbal last week that he highly recommended the Dutch coach to his former side and would have liked to see him take charge in N17.

When asked about the former Spurs midfielder’s comments, the Feyenoord boss has now told Rondo on Ziggo Sport: “So many untruths have been told about my move to Spurs. I am not suggesting that what Rafael is saying now is not true. But I am very happy at Feyenoord and Spurs have hired a very good manager.”

Some Tottenham fans were livid last summer when the Slot move fell through and the club turned their attention to Postecoglou. Many were also equally furious when the club decided to go for Micky van de Ven after finding Edmond Tapsoba to be too expensive.

This perhaps serves as a lesson to fans to not overact as it is impossible to know how these decisions would turn out over the long term.
