‘I’m sure’ – Spurs target appears to close the door on any potential transfer
Rumoured Tottenham target Conor Gallagher has closed the door on a potential exit from Chelsea in January by remarking that he expects to sign a new contract with his boyhood club soon.
Even though Gallagher has started every single Premier League game for Chelsea so far this season (Transfermarkt) and has even worn the armband in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell, the speculation over the midfielder’s future has not dissipated.
In fact, journalist Rudy Galatti told Tribal Football just a couple of weeks ago that the 23-year-old continues to be near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist ahead of the January transfer window.
This was also backed up by 90 min, who explained last week that Spurs have been joined in the race for England international’s signature by Newcastle and West Ham ahead of January.
However, the outlet revealed that Chelsea were keen to accelerate efforts to tie down their academy graduate to a new contract after Mauricio Pochettino made it clear to the club’s hierarchy that the midfielder is an important part of his plans.

Conor Gallagher will likely sign new Chelsea deal
Gallagher himself has now suggested that it is only a matter of time before he commits to a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
When asked about the contract negotiations, the Blues star said (via The Independent): “I’m sure that will get sorted out, everyone knows Chelsea is my club and I love playing for them. The fans are brilliant and I’m loving it right now and I’m sure it will get itself sorted out.
“A lot was going on in the summer, a big transition in the club, a lot of players coming in, a lot of players leaving.
“I was lucky enough to stay and be a part of the manager’s plans, whatever he wants me to do I have been doing and I will keep working as hard as possible for him.
“It was a crazy period in terms of ins and outs at Chelsea and I had conversations with the manager and he expressed that he liked me as a player and I was in his plans and I was really happy with that.”

Tottenham missed their big chance of signing Gallagher in the summer as it was clear that Chelsea were open to a sale for the right fee back then. However, Spurs backed out of the deal after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s sale to Atletico Madrid fell through.
