Mark Lawrenson shares his Burnley vs Tottenham score prediction

0 8

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has shared his score prediction ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Burnley on Sunday.

Spurs travel to Turf Moor looking for a bounce-back performance after losing 2-1 to Slovenian minnows NS Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday evening.

Antonio Conte handed a number of fringe players the chance to impress in a rotated Spurs side which included Harry Kane, but plenty flattered to deceive as the side’s hopes of progression in the competition will now go down to the wire.

The opportunity to respond comes against Burnley, who have struggled for the majority of the Premier League campaign, with Sean Dyche’s men sitting in the bottom three with just one win to their name.

The sides have met once already this season in the Carabao Cup fourth round, with Spurs taking the spoils 1-0 courtesy of Lucas Moura’s second-half strike.

Despite the Clarets building a four-game unbeaten run, BBC pundit Lawrenson expects Spurs to regroup and claim a narrow win in Lancashire.

He told BBC Sport: “Antonio Conte has made a strong start at Spurs with four points from his first two games in charge and he will know exactly what to expect at Turf Moor.

“Burnley have just started building a nice little unbeaten run, with a win and three draws in their past four league games, but I don’t see them stopping Spurs.”

Lawrenson’s prediction: Burnley 1-2 Tottenham

Spurs need to bounce back after that poor display in Europe in midweek and there could have been less favourable oppositions to do that against. It won’t be an easy encounter, but no doubt Conte will have prepared them for the challenges that could crop up against Burnley.
