0 39

The youth road events have finally arrived and will kick into high gear on June 8th. Ontario Cycling (OC) will be offering two Youth Road Development Series (YRDS) races in partnership with Attack Racing. YRDS is designed to provide high quality racing opportunities for our youth in a safe and controlled manner. Three other racing opportunities are being offered to youth riders. The London Ontario Summer Games in August, as well as in partnership with Performance Driven Events we will be offering a U15 category at OCup #3 – Harrisburg Classic Road Race and finally Road Provincial Championship open to U15 riders.

YRDS #1 – Ontario Police College

Date: June 8th, 2024

YRDS #1 will be held at the Ontario Police College. The course has a technical 1.6km flat circuit on the Police Vehicle Operations Course. There are approximately 8 corners, and the width of the course varies, combining a wide start/finish straight with some narrow corners. YRDS #1 will include Individual Time Trial, Skill Sessions and a Criterium.

OCup #3 – Harrisburg Classic Road Race

Date: June 9th 2024

Join us for a double header weekend where U15 riders can participate in 1 OCup for the season. The highly anticipated Harrisburg Classic Road Race is back and part of the OCup Series. U15 riders will get the opportunity to test their skills and participate in a Belgian-style Kermesse, ideally situated in southwestern Ontario, the course is just over 15km in length with 114 meters of climbing per lap. The roads themselves will have you thinking you’re riding through the European countryside as you twist and turn through Brant Count. Intersections will be controlled by the Hamilton Police Service.

YRDS #2 – Stonetown Heritage Crit

Date: July 14th, 2024

Join us in St. Marys during their Harvest Festival which celebrates the cultures, stories and histories that shape the past and present of St. Marys. The festival features family-friendly activities, diverse food options, riverside art walk, vendor’s market, live music and dance and firework show.

The course consists of a relatively flat 700m circuit with two tight corners. The start/finish line is located in the straightway on the west side of the Milt Dunnell Park. YRDS #2 will consist of a Time Trial event, Chariot Race and Criterium.

Ontario Summer Games

Date: August 1-4th (cycling events happening August 2nd-3rd)

The Ontario Summer Games is a provincial multi-sport competition involving 18 sports and over 3,500 participants. We are excited that Road Cycling will make its return to the Games along with the inclusion of Para-Cycling. Participation is open to athletes 13-17 (males), 13-18 (female) and Para athletes (open age) to compete in the multiple race events including Time Trial, Hill Climb, Criterium and Road Racing.

Our final road opportunity available for U15 riders is the 2024 Road Provincial Championship being held in the Niagara region. More information about the course is coming soon. Only U15 riders who have participated in either OCup #3 – Harrisburg Classic Road Race or Ontario Summer games are eligible to participate in Road Provincials.
