New Day But The Same Result

0 12

The Baltimore Orioles performed slightly better on Saturday as they scored 2 more runs but only managed 1 additional hit as compared to Friday’s game. In the end, the result was the same, a 9-4 loss to the New York Yankees (22-11).

Once again, Baltimore pitching failed to keep the Yankees’ bats in check. Three of six Baltimore pitchers gave up runs to the Bronx Bombers; four of those runs came on homeruns.

Starter Kyle Bradish (1-4) struggled through 4.0 innings of work, needing 89 pitches (51 K’s) to do so. He surrendered 5 runs on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out 4. Bradish also gave up a pair of homeruns: a solo shot by Cody Bellinger in the second inning and a two-run blast to Trent Grisham in the fourth.

Beadish gave up a pair of two-out runs in the third inning as well with one coming on an Adley Rutschman passed ball.

Bellinger, who went 4 for 4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 4 RBI, hit a second solo homerun off of Keegan Akin in the fifth inning. The game got out of hand when the Yankees scored 3 runs on Anthony Nunez in the seventh inning. Nunez gave uo 2 hits and 2 walks without recording an out.

Pete Alonso homered for the second time in as many days, a 413 ft. shot to left field, his sixth of the season.

Baltimore scored 2 runs in the sixth on a pair of singles by Taylor Ward and Gunnar Henderson. Rutschman loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice combined with a Ben Rice throwing error. Alonso grounded into a double play, allowing Ward to score and a pinch hit double by Samuel Basallo scored Henderson.

Dylan Beavers walked, stole second and third and scored on Ward’s groundout to first in the seventh inning to account for the Orioles’ final run.
