No Shoes For You
The Baltimore Orioles lost 4-3 to the Miami Marlins (17-21) in walk-off fashion due to a throwing error by Coby Mayo. A two-out double by Miami catcher Joe Mack preceded the error which resulted in the winning run. The loss not only prevented a three-game sweep by the Orioles, but it also kept the team from getting new sneakers. Manager Craig Albernaz brought that tradition from Cleveland; sneakers in the opponent’s colors for a sweep.
The Orioles are once again on injury watch as starter Cade Povich left the game with left forearm discomfort. Povich lasted just 3.0 innings and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1. The big blow against him came in the first inning when he gave up a two-run homerun to Liam Hicks. A MRI is scheduled for Povich on Friday.
Yennier Cano, Dietrich Enns and Keegan Akin combined to keep the Marlins off the scoreboard for 5.0 innings before Andrew Kittredge (0-1) took the loss.
Gunnar Henderson (1 for 5) singled to score Mayo in the third inning.
Samuel Basallo (1 for 4) doubled and scored on a Tyler O’Neill (1 for 4) RBI-single in the fourth.
The Orioles tied the game in the eighth inning on Pete Alonso‘s (1 for 4) RBI single that allowed Taylor Ward (0 for 3, BB) to score.
Sadly, a .500 record remains elusive for the Orioles.
