Morning Briefing: Mets DFA Paul Blackburn
Good morning, Mets fans!
Not much is going right in Mets world right now, but one source of excitement is the debut of Nolan McLean on Saturday. One of the Mets’ most highly touted pitching prospects in recent memory, McLean will see his first major league action and will wear jersey No. 26 in the Mets’ second game against the Mariners.
In a corresponding move Friday night, the Mets designated Paul Blackburn for assignment, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Blackburn provided the Mets five innings of relief in his most recent outing, which came Wednesday. It was his first MLB appearance since June 28, with an IL stint due to a right shoulder impingement in between.
Blackburn had a 6.85 ERA in 23 2/3 MLB innings this season. He had an even 6.o0 ERA over 48 innings in his Mets career.
