WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup Super Round - Day 2: Chinese Taipei have the lead over USA, Mexico and Korea take the field, Japan wins
Day 2 of the WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup 2025 presented by RAXUS Super Round is underway at the Asia Pacific Baseball Stadiums and Training Centre (ASPAC) in Tainan.
Japan beat the Dominican Republic and improved their record to 3-1. The Dominicans (0-4) are out of the medal round.
The Dominican Republic had a 5-1 lead when they failed to complete a double play that would have ended the bottom of the third. Japan took advantage of the opportunity with a six-run rally capped by Riku Sahashi's three-run homer.
Chinese Taipei took on USA at the ASPAC Main Stadium.
Mexico and Korea took the field at the second field.
In the Placement Round, Cuba shut out Czechia and stayed perfect.
The WBSC Technical Commission postponed morning games, Germany-Panama and South Africa-Australia, to Sunday, August 3, due to inclement weather.

Super Round Games
Chinese Taipei @ USA
Mexico @ Korea
Japan-Dominican Republic 10-6
Japan took a quick 1-0 lead without getting a hit against starter Yostin Gomez, but the Dominican Republic reversed it in the top of the second when third baseman Daniel Luis turned Daiki Koh's fourth pitch into a two-run home run. It was the eighth Dominican homer by eight different players.
Daiki was the second pitcher Japan sent to the mound after starter Toshiki Maruyama. Riku Sahashi took the mound in the top of the third, and the Dominican Republic extended the lead with three runs on a pair of singles and a costly defensive error.
Sahashi helped himself, putting Japan back in the lead with a three-run homer that sent Gomez to the showers to cap a six-run bottom of the third. The Dominican Republic failed to complete a double play despite a perfect throw home by right fielder Elvio Mercedes that would have ended the inning with the Dominicans leading 5-1.
Sojiro Ohara, the fourth Japanese pitcher, left in the top of the fifth after allowing a base hit. The Dominicans made it a one-run game when catcher Dileccio Perez hit a two-out RBI single off Yunosuke Ibaraki. Kosei Fukuyama protected Japan's lead with a fine backhand play at shortstop on a hard grounder by Daniel Luis.
Japan scored three insurance runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Placement Round Games
Cuba-Czechia 8-0
Cuba set the tone, scoring two runs against Jan Cervenka in the bottom of the first on Sean Garcia's second home run in as many games, his third in the tournament.
It would have been more than enough to win, since Denis Zamora shut out Czechia, allowing only two hits over six innings.
Cuba broke the score open against Cervenka and reliever Teodor Svoboda in the bottom of the fourth.
