Mets Minors Recap: Francisco Alvarez Homers Again

0 5

Francisco Alvarez came through in the clutch for Syracuse on Sunday, launching a game-winning, go-ahead homer in the eighth inning. It was the second homer in as many days for Alvarez as the 23-year-old looks to regain his form after hitting just .236/.319/.652 with just three home runs to his name. Alvarez has switched back to his old stance, which will hopefully give him the boost of confidence he needs to start hitting like the Mets envisioned at the start of the year.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (36-45) 5, Rochester Red Wings (28-50) 3

Box Score

Pablo Reyes stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI triple. Luis De Los Santos chipped in with an RBI double as part of a 1-for-4 showing. De Los Santos now has six hits in his last seven games.

Austin Warren was nails out of the bullpen, striking out the side, including Nationals’ coveted prospect Robert Hassell III. Warren could find himself back on the Mets roster soon enough as they try to stabilize a beleaguered bullpen.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (49-24) 1, Portland Seadogs (36-37) 3

Box Score

Jett Williams was the only source of offense for a Binghamton offense that struggled to generate much momentum. The Ponies were no-hit until a leadoff single in the 8th inning.

Jack Wenninger didn’t have his sharpest outing, allowing two earned runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings of work. Ryan Lambert struck out another two hitters and finished June with 14 strikeouts over 9 1/3 innings of work.

High-A

Jersey Shore BlueClaws (27-45) 3, Brooklyn Cyclones (53-22) 8

Box Score

  • DH Jesse Winker, 1-for-1, 2B, BB 1 RBI (3.000 OPS)
  • DH (Pinch Hitter) Chris Suero, 2-for-2, 2B, HR, 2 RBI (.870 OPS)
  • RF A.J. Ewing 1-for-3, HR, 2 BB, RBI (.820 OPS)

Jesse Winker returned to the field with a double in his first game since straining his oblique in May. His return should provide a much-needed boost to the Mets’ struggling bottom of the order, who have yet to find consistent footing this season.

Ryan Ammons mowed down the BlueClaws as he struck out four in two innings of work. Ammons allowed two earned runs over five innings of work in June while striking out seven.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (40-34) 1, Jupiter Hammerheads (34-41) 13

Box Score

Daiverson Gutierrez provided the lone spark in Sunday’s 13-1 blowout loss to the Hammerheads, driving in the only run with an RBI single. On a brighter note, Simon Juan smacked his seventh double of the season.

Hunter Hodges struck out two in an inning and a third of work and struck out ten hitters over 6 ⅔ innings of work in June.
